Mr. Jarvis has worked as a machinic, an apprentice, and Journeyman Millwright in the dairy, lumber, mining, and chemical weapons disposal industries.  He has seen firsthand the importance of safety and the need for people in the trades.

Mr. Javis has endorsements in Career Trades (Generalist), Legacy Middle Level, and Multiple Subjects.

INDUSTRIAL ARTS

Introduction to Trades - APR 101

This course offers 4 college credits and provides an introduction to the necessary skills required for working in the trades. Students explore current trends in apprenticeship and basic requirements to enter individual programs.

Students will become familiar with licensing and certification in a chosen trade. General topics include industry opportunities and basic concepts in safety, trade vocabulary, trade calculations, hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and basic rigging.

Students in this class will receive 40 points toward the electrical apprenticeship application if they choose to apply.

Industrial Safety - APR 120

This course offers 3 college credits and presents training in OR-OSHA standards and related general safety and health provisions. Oregon Safety Law and subjects listed in OAR 437, Division 3 and OAR 437, Division 2 training and accident prevention measures are included, as well as safety committee procedures.

Industrial safety goes into safety in an industrial setting such as mill construction sites and learning safe practices around heavy equipment and machinery. 

These classes are offered every other year to 11th- and 12th-grade students.
