Riddle Elementary Families, Great news! We have just received notice that Riddle Elementary is clear of bat activity, and the sanitation process has been successfully completed. School will be open tomorrow, Monday, September 14, and we are excited to welcome our students and staff back!

Riddle Elementary School will remain closed Friday, September 11, as we address the bat activity in the building and take preventative measures and improve our building for safety. We are hopeful that students will be able to return Monday, September 14. We understand that an unexpected school closure creates real challenges for families, and we are grateful for your patience and support. We will keep you updated as the work progresses. Here’s what’s happening now: We’re continuing to consult with the Douglas Public Health Network, Oregon Health Authority, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as needed. We are working with a state-preferred licensed bat specialist on what is called a “humane exclusion process” that allows bats to safely leave while preventing them from returning. This work also includes identifying and sealing potential entry points. We are also developing plans to support continued learning just in case the closure needs to extend beyond Monday. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to ensure our students can safely return to a high-quality learning environment as soon as possible.

Dear Riddle Elementary Families,
Riddle Elementary School will be closed Wednesday, September 9, and Thursday, September 10, due to continued bat activity in the building. Out of an abundance of caution, the district is taking this time to thoroughly inspect the building and complete the necessary cleaning and bat-removal measures. We are working to make the best possible decisions based on the information and professional guidance available to us.
Throughout this process, the district is working closely with the Douglas Public Health Network, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), and a professional bat specialist. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We will provide families with an update Thursday afternoon regarding the progress made and the next steps for reopening the school. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding.
Volleyball practice schedule change for today, Tuesday, September 8th. All practices will be held at the high school gym. High School will be 4:00-6:30pm. JH B-Team will be 6:30-7:30pm, A-Team will be 7:30-8:30pm. Go Irish!
The elementary school will be open and in session tomorrow on our regular schedule.
Prior to students and staff returning tomorrow, our custodial staff will focus on cleaning the affected areas and ensuring those spaces are ready for occupancy. We will also continue to closely monitor the building and respond immediately should any additional bat activity be observed.

Riddle Elementary Emergency Closure! Out of an abundance of caution, we are sending students home today (Friday, 09/04) due to the presence of bats in the school building. The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We are working to address the situation and will ensure the building is safe before students and staff return.
